I would wager that Gustave Eiffel would approve of the recently proposed upgrades to his marvel of engineering. He dared to imagine a new structure for a new era. French architecture studio Moatti- Rivière is taking the idea into the new millennium. The firm is renovating one of the world’s most iconic landmarks, the Eiffel Tower. The project includes a new first floor for the aging icon and it will also be updated with many new sustainable features such as solar, hydraulic and wind power.
When I asked Lawrence Scarpa at the Sarasota Modern Conference what he thought of this idea, he said it’s a terrible idea.
If renovating the Eiffel Tower seems sacrilegious, consider this, the Ginger Group wants to plant 600,000 plants on the structure, making it a giant carbon-devouring tree.
